Hymn of Promise

In the bulb there is a flower; in the seed, an apple tree; in cocoons, a hidden promise; butterflies will soon be free! In the cold and snow of winter there's a spring that waits to be, unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.

There's a song in every silence, seeking word and melody; there's a dawn in every darkness, bringing hope to you and me. From the past will come the future; what it holds, a mystery, unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.

In our end is our beginning; in our time, infinity; in our doubt there is believing; in our life, eternity. In our death, a resurrection; at the last, a victory, unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see. ~~ words & music by Natalie Sleeth, 1986 United Methodist Hymnal

This is my very first official posting! It is so much fun to see what other creative people are doing and visiting their beautiful homes! Years ago when DIY shows were brand new I caught a segment showing how to make tassels. They actually handwrapped the wooden spools with various colors of silk threads. That was before you could go to the computer and look up instructions from the show and so I promptly forgot how they did it! But I always wanted to try it...then for my mother's 75th birthday my nephew's wife made my mother 2 unique and wonderful tassels! The time had come to try my hand at this and voila! This adorable little bird sits on a nest of various ribbons and a little beaded fringe for sparkle. My best friend loved it and it's hanging in her kitchen now!

  8. Hi Laura...

Cindy just told me that you had started a blog...so I had to come right over! I remember touring your beautiful home on RMS...not sure if you remember me or not but I'm so very happy to see that you started a blog! Welcome to Blogland, my friend!!!

What a grand way to start your blog...I love your handmade tassels...in fact, that pretty white bunny done up with all of the pretty pink and green would look marvelous in my Tea Rose bedroom! You did a fabulous job with these! It's so funny, I just bought materials to start making a few for myself, I love crafting and these pretty little tassels are really expensive to buy...so thought I'd try my hand at them!

Well my friend, sending you a warm & hearty welcome...stop by my place for a visit when you get a chance...I'd love to have you!

    Warmest wishes...
    Chari (Happytodesign from RMS)

  11. Hi Laura, and welcome to Blogland! You will be great at this! Your tassels are beautiful! Okay, now I have a request--you are going to be so shocked by this. If you outlive me, and you hear that I've gone, please get in touch with my husband and remind him that Hymn of Promise is what I want sung at my funeral! He can never remember the name of this hymn, and I've told him numerous times! I'm adding you to my blog list. I'll be back often (to check and make sure you remember the song I want at my funeral!) Just kidding-I'll be back to see all of your great posts. laurie

  14. Hi Lauralu, I loved your story about growing older. I think about that stuff all the time!! Also, I wanted to tell you... since you are already doing those beautiful tassels. I saw someone make pretty and unique tassels from old small bedside lamps. They just took the lamps apart and used them as a large bead... I was going to make some, even bought some lamps....LOL I couldn't figure it out...!!!! If you post a how to let me know...
