Hymn of Promise

In the bulb there is a flower; in the seed, an apple tree; in cocoons, a hidden promise; butterflies will soon be free! In the cold and snow of winter there's a spring that waits to be, unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.

There's a song in every silence, seeking word and melody; there's a dawn in every darkness, bringing hope to you and me. From the past will come the future; what it holds, a mystery, unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.

In our end is our beginning; in our time, infinity; in our doubt there is believing; in our life, eternity. In our death, a resurrection; at the last, a victory, unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see. ~~ words & music by Natalie Sleeth, 1986 United Methodist Hymnal

Time Flies When You're Having fun!

My post tonite is about time and how fast it goes! One day you're graduating high school and frolicking on the beach in Florida in a bikini, young and carefree...then you're at your 30 year high school reunion and old boyfriends are showing pictures and you suddenly realize that you're older than your mother was in that picture! then your DH reminds you you're as old as your mother was when you and he got married! Now don't get me wrong, I don't mind getting older; they do say it beats the alternative!, but you tend to forget that you're getting older until
something like this comes along to, oh so suddenly, remind you!
Since I don't know how to post these with titles the top is me and my friends in Florida 1978 right after graduating high school! I'm in the green bikini standing up in the back with my still best friend! The picture here is my mother. I'm right behind her! This was at my friend's house while we were all getting ready to leave! What were our parents' thinking!!!!!!! By my calculations my mother is only 44 years old here! ARGGHHH!!!

  1. Laura I am a bit older than you, quite a bit older and boy do I remember what I used to think about the people my age! Boy were they old! Isn't it interesting how our prospective changes. I look at myself when my kids were babies and I was just a baby myself. (I thought I was so old then) I heard something the other day about 60 being the new 40, I for one hope it catches on. LOL! How is your sweet son today? Sure hope he gets well really soon. Love, Cindy

  2. Isn't that so true, Laura? My mother is 91 years old now but I used to think that she was so old when she was 38 and I was of course a lot younger...Christine

  3. Oh, this makes me giggle Laura! When I got my first job I was replacing a young woman of 28 who was going out on maternity leave and I thought she was so old! lol
You're still a beauty no matter what age!

  4. Oh Laura this is too funny! I was just thinking about this the other day as my 30th reunion is coming up this fall. Then I was also thinking as my oldest son just turned 26 and I thought- "wow at 26 I had two children 5 & 3 years old". My son isn't married yet and seems so young-

THen after reading your comment back about the 5 foot long "Gosh am I getting old" or maybe it just how dense I am at times and yet it is so funny because it got me to go back to the blog and see my mistake and remeasure and......
It shows you just how obsessesed this mantle has me!!!

  5. I'm back! Oh, I've just seen your comment about the tassels. Going under with ribbon is a good idea. I'd probably ruin whatever I tried to drill a hole in! One of these days I'll make a tassel! I really will.
    Continue to be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  8. Laura, this is such a cute post! It does just kind of hit me in the face occasionally that I am, what I used to think of as, old! Most of the time I am able to "pretend" that I am still young. laurie

  17. Hi Laura Lu! I'm so glad you stopped by to visit me. I haven't been blogging very long, but have met so many sweet girls and am looking forward to meeting more. I love your blog and I must say I can definitely relate to this post!! I had my 30 year reunion in 2004. We had so much fun and it seemed to re-kindle something in all of us. I think it's the "age" we are at. We start to reflect on the years that have so quickly passed by and start to realize that the truly important things aren't things at all. I too have looked at pictures of parents and teachers that were much younger 30 years ago than I am now and am amazed at just how "OLD" they look. Wonder if our kids and their friends will feel the same when they reach our age? Things have changed a lot since then, we've become more active, have more opportunities, have different lifestyles than that generation had. I remember looking at a picture of my grandmother who looked 90 at only 50. A friend and I were riding up on the elevator to our reunion dinner and she leaned over and whispered to me about another couple riding up with us, "were they students or teachers"? Thinking as you did, "who are these old people"? LOL When my friends tell me we are getting old I quickly tell them they can get old if they want to, but I am only getting oldER. I hope I never get OLD. I prefer to think of myself as vintage and that's quite in vogue these days!! Please come back and visit again. It's nice to meet you.
    Blessings,
    Elizabeth
